Auburn, CA March 31, 2009 – Placer County’s Acting Assistant District Attorney, Ronald “Scott” Owens, officially announced Saturday that he is running for District Attorney of Placer County in the 2010 election. Currently serving as the Acting Assistant District Attorney to incumbent Brad Fenocchio, Owens made his formal declaration to replace Fenocchio in front of a large crowd of over 600 supporters gathered at a campaign kickoff dinner Saturday night. Fenocchio, who spoke at Saturday’s event, announced last September his plans to retire and not seek re-election in 2010 and has expressed he fully supports Owens’ candidacy to replace him. “I can think of no better person to be the next District Attorney of Placer County than Scott Owens”, stated Fenocchio.

Last spring two Placer County deputy district attorneys approached one of their own and asked him one important question.
The answer? An emphatic, “yes.”
That was the story county deputy district attorney Doug Van Breemen recounted for a packed-in crowd of community leaders and elected officials at a Roseville restaurant Thursday morning. All were in support of senior deputy district attorney Ronald “Scott” Owens, who answered yes to the question of whether or not he would want to be Placer County’s next district attorney.

Brad Fenocchio, Placer County’s district attorney for the past 14 years, announced today he is retiring and will not seek re-election when his term ends in 2010.
Fenocchio, 60, said he will endorse the office’s acting assistant district attorney, Scott Owens, as his successor.
The district attorney made the announcement at a breakfast meeting at a Roseville restaurant to introduce Owens to political, law enforcement and community leaders.
Owens is an 18-year veteran prosecutor in the Placer office and also doubles as the public information officer. He worked for the Placer County Probation Office for seven years before joining the District Attorney’s Office.
He was the office’s “prosecutor of the year” in 1998.
Doug Van Breemen, vice president of the Placer County Deputy District Attorneys Association, said members unanimously supported Owens when the group met a year ago to discuss a possible successor to Fenocchio.
“Scott has a deep, deep commitment to public safety,” Van Breemen told the breakfast audience.
